Got up a little after 4am today, to help my oldest daughter, Rachel, get off to a church youth mission trip to Oregon.(She is a college student, and the “Interim Youth Minister to Senior High Youth and their Families”.I just think it’s funny that my 5 foot 3 daughter has a job title that’s almost bigger than she is!)They’re working on a Habitat For Humanity project. It was really nice to be out driving in the early morning stillness, listening to some Spanish hymns on CD,drinking my coffee(1 cream 1 sugar).
Good discussion group today after church, regarding the nature of the Sabbath. We talked about how Jesus showed us that not only the law(s) about the Sabbath, but other laws as well, are for our benefit. Even though we’re free from the burden of a legalistic set of laws, it benefits US to refocus after a week of whatever it is that occupies us otherwise; to rest from all that; and to redirect our focus on our path with God. Had some debate about the good/bad of 24/7 stores, and where our frenetic, 24/7 culture is headed.Great stuff! I think I’ll go pick up my middle daughter from church(sleepy head!…went to 2d service!)and go to Senor Lopez’s restaurant for some huevos rancheros, or something.
paz de Christo!….jim
