    The heavens declare the glory of the Lord…..

    in case you have been feeling full of yourself lately;
    or in need of a reality check….take the time to not only look and marvel at these images,
    but also read the descriptions….

    “The heavens declare the glory of God;
           the skies proclaim the work of his hands.

      Day after day they pour forth speech;
           night after night they display knowledge.

      There is no speech or language
           where their voice is not heard”
      from Psalm 19

    The Sombrero Galaxy – 28 million light years from Earth – was voted best picture taken by the Hubble telescope. The dimensions of the galaxy, officially called M104, are as spectacular as its appearance. It has 800 billion suns and is 50,000 light years across.

    The Ant Nebula, a cloud of dust and gas whose technical name is Mz3, resembles an ant when observed using ground-based telescopes… The nebula lies within our galaxy between 3,000 and 6,000 light years from Earth.

    In third place is Nebula NGC 2392, called ‘Eskimo’ because it looks like a face surrounded by a furry hood. The hood is, in fact, a ring of comet-shaped objects flying away from a dying star. Eskimo is 5,000 light years from Earth.

    At four is the Cat’s Eye Nebula.

    The Hourglass Nebula, 8,000 light years away, has a ‘pinched-in-the-middle’ look because the winds that shape it are weaker at the centre.

    In sixth place is the Cone Nebula. The part pictured here is 2.5 light years in length (the equivalent of 23 million return trips to the Moon).

    The Perfect Storm, a small region in the Swan Nebula, 5,500 light years away, described as ‘a bubbly ocean of hydrogen and small amounts of oxygen, sulphur and other elements.

    Starry Night, so named because it reminded astronomers of the Van Gogh painting. It is a halo of light around a star in the Milky Way.

    The glowering eyes from 114 million light years away are the swirling cores of two merging galaxies called NGC 2207 and IC 2163 in the distant Can is Major constellation.

    The Trifid Nebula. A ‘stellar nursery,’ 9,000 light years from here, it is where new stars are being born.

    ………………………

    “ Lift your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.” Isaiah 40:26

    Got a little perspective yet? Good..knowing how incredible God is , relative to us, is a good place to start…

    blessings…Jim

  • Been away for a bit..but just had to share this when I saw it. : )

  • fantastic pic’s

  • @jimmish - replying to your own post?  is this a way to get eprops?  haha.  i will reiterate–fantastic pic’s.  just today i read that if the sun is a 6  ft. sphere, the nearest star–alphabet centaur, isn’t it?–is proportionately twice the distance of the earth to the moon–or equal to the diameter of the moon’s orbit  (or something–circular functions confuse me–like the area of a pie is a square ‘R’

  • Yes, the nearest star is alpha centauri. I actually made the comment to bring up the comment page when experimenting with the link. The link I’ve put in is a general one for my page…if I copy the URL when the comment page is open, it leads people to this specific post.

  • Our God is an Awesome God, He reigns!!
    Great pictures!
    Thanks for your comments, Great scripture!
    Blessings,
    Mike
