My aunt died last week.  Donna Don

Now, I hadn’t seen her much the last several years,
but remembered her smile well from childhood.

What struck me, as I listened to sincere testimonial to her, was that
she had “sailed her vessel” well, right to the end of her life.

She had survived a near-fatal childhood illness, which
left her with heart problems the rest of her life,
but she married and raised a family, sometimes under difficult circumstances,

    yet all remembered her giving nature, her smile and her constant love and care;

all , as far as anyone could remember, without complaining.

    I (once again) asked myself..

“Am I doing what I can to ‘sail my vessel’ well?”

The largest reason I mention the work that Rachel does is admiration; she’s a prod in my side that
there is much I can do…I need but start.

Too often, we see only the obstacles in the way of what we’d really “like to do”. The advantage of youth sometimes is the belief that “all things ARE possible.”

It doesn’t mean doing huge projects, either..to the person at work who’s feeling really down
(or the downcast person you notice on the street), a kind word or smile can be
life-changing. We can bring God’s love to others in so many ways RIGHT WHERE WE ARE.

I’d say that a corollary to “Bloom where you’re planted” is

    “Sail where you’re launched”.

    much love and joyful sailing

“For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works,

which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Eph. 2:10

  • I’m very sorry your aunt passed away, Jim.  It sounds like she lived a wonderful life and overcame many obstacles.  It’s sad when our older relatives elave us.  My condolences to you and all her family.

  • My prayers are with you and your family!……….In Christ’s Love….Monic

  • I’m sorry to hear of your loss. My prayers are with you. You are very blessed to have a daughter who inspires you in eternal things. You are so right about the ‘right where we are’ phrase. Why is it that we are so prone to see purposeful lives for Christ only in terms of ‘huge projects’?

ryc: thank you for your kind comment

  • What wonderful praise for your Aunt as she enters glory! “She sailed her vessel well”.

It does make one wonder if the same could be said about each of us when the Lord takes us home. You’re right about blooming wherever God plants us. Sometimes we look so far away to do His bidding, that we don’t see the need for the mission right in front of us so to speak.

It is awesome that you have Rachel to provide you with momentum to look beyond and fresh eyes to see through.

    May your week be blessed.

  • Sorry to hear about your Aunt but glad she was faithful to her savior and now she is at His feet!

rtc…aww…kind words Bro….we are married 31 years, he came along 3 years after we were married!

  • sorry to here about your aunt. I love the song can you give methe name and artist so I can buy it on I tunes?

  • I’m sorry about your aunt, but it sounds like she was a remarkable woman to know.

I just saw a story on GMA about one 12 year old boy doing some outstanding things for others.

Yeah, I know that feeling – I could and should do so much more.

  • Sad to hear of your lost…but since she knows the LORD, We know she’s in a better place!

  • Hey Jim!! Miss you! You inspire me. Just wanted you to know that. :) ~Ness

  • Hi Jim ~ Everytime I come to your site, I am so very blessed! Whether by your music, your poems, your devotionals, or the letters which you post from Rachel. Since I’ve not been here awhile, it was all of these things tonight. First let me say that I’m sorry for the loss of your precious aunt; how wonderful to know that she is enjoying being in the Presence of her Lord & Savior. 2nd ~ How timely that  I should read Rachel’s letter this evening, just before I begin studying for a presentation to young children in their Bible classtime tomorrow evening. How true it is that God’s Spirit gives us just what we need to share, as well as the enabling strength to do so. 3rd ~ I appreciate the truths that you share from your heart ~ spiritual truths, with fun insights of your busy life. God bless you, Jim, as well as all of your “children.”  I had come over to your site specifically to see if there was a current letter/needs for which I could pray re: Rachel. May we all be full of the ”holy-discontentment” of the sort where we are only desirous of  “more love for Thee” & to be more committed to our Lord. Blessings & love in Christ ~ your sister in Him

  • I’m sorry for your loss. She sounds like an inspirational person.

Thank you for the advice, well-wishes, and simply reading some of my posts. you’re one of the only ones who have, and I just realized I never thanked you.

    I don’t even know if I’ve ever commented back.:-p

    God bless.

  • Hi Jim;

Just thought I would pop in and say hello since it’s been a while since you posted. Hope all is well in your part of the world.

  • I think bringing love to people in our world is the best way to be salt and light for Jesus.  There is such a hunger for love.

  • BE the merry this Christmas! loving you ..e.ven though you don’t post! know all is well, somehow. trying to give you some love and ceer4….lots of it! all my best

  • Haven’t seen you around in awhile. How are you?

  • Hello Jim,
You made your site so simple yet elegant. The pictures are a nice touch. I see that your aunt passed away recently. That’s the kind of world that we live in now, a world where sickness and death are a part of life. Fortunately, it isn’t going to stay this way much longer!
I want to help people to really get to know Jehovah God, especially in these troubled times. Here is an important message for us from Him that is in the Bible: “…I am about to shake up everything, to turn everything upside down and start over from top to bottom – overthrow governments, destroy foreign powers, dismantle the world of weapons and armaments, throw armies into confusion, so that they end up killing one another.” (Haggai 2:21,22) (MSG)

  • How are you doing?  Been missing you around….Hope you are well….Mike

  • Thanks for your understanding and your prayers!

  • I sure do miss you round here Mister Jim!
