it’s MONDAY; today, why don’t you

“Make like a TREE, and leave!”  leave

Relax; I just got thinking about trees while doing some fall photos this morning.

It’s remarkable what we can learn from trees.

Of course you know that all a tree’s growth and life ultimately depend on the light of the sun.
    Trees 015
Some of you even know that,
as they grow, trees “leave” in a pattern that provides maximum exposure to the sun’s rays.
They stretch out their branches, reaching to gather all they can.

    The tree also needs roots.
A plant’s root system is designed to get to the water,
and trees wither and die if their roots are not deep enough to reach that resource.
Interestingly, the giant Sequoias and redwoods of the western coast
do not have particularly deep root systems,
The water is plentiful where they grow. The problem with this is that the roots not only
obtain water and nutrients from the soil,
they anchor the tree in “solid ground”.

From time to time these giant trees have been known to topple of their own weight,
    lacking adequate anchorage.

To draw things together, God is our light, our ground, our “Living Water”.

We flourish when we continually reach out to Him, drawing energy from
    the light of His word and His Spirit within us;
anchoring ourselves in His precepts, His Body,
His Word and loving relationship with Him.

    So today….
Make like a tree and LEAVE…….

and branch and root and grow
in the knowledge and love of
    God in Jesus.

(from)Psalm 1.. Blessed is the one who(se) .. delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on His law he meditates day and night.
He is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither.

  • RYC:  I’m a little slow in checking my Xanga too.  You mentioned you have a cat and two kittens.  Too few cats Jim, you need a couple more at least, and I can help you with that.  I plan to post an update soon on our second litter of kittens.  They are at a very cute stage.  Hard to part with, but right now we have 10 cats, and possibly another litter on it’s way.  I don’t think you live in our area, but if you decide you would like to expand the joy in your life and have another kitten or two I would be willing to bring a couple right to your door.

  • “Make like a tree and leave” – never heard that one, but ::groan:: it is funny!  LOL

We are not due to have a very colorful fall here, due to the weather staying warm for too long.  I will really miss that, and look forward to the colors each year.

  • Good Morning Jim,

Thank you for responding so quickly to my Birthday blog.  It was good to hear from you.  I am also glad to see that Matt is home now.  I can imagine how much that thrills your heart.  He served his country well, and you obviously are proud of him which it is what you should be.  God bless you, and thanks for stopping by.

    Blessings,

    Joe

  • Jim,

It’s so good to hear from you.  We had a good day all things considered, I mentioned in my post today that I know my Redeemer lives and so does my Dad!  He had a military burial which was very touching too…He served in the US Army when I was a kid.

    Blessings to you,

    Mike

  • Great analogies today!

  • yep, it is. Right now, they are giving me all the hours I want, working PRN, and I said no Sundays, or Wednesday nights. I’m thankful. I wish it was Mon thru Friday, for the kids sakes, but…. I’m thankful.

Looks like your family is doing well.

  • Neat learning this about trees, and that Psalm came to my mind mid post – I pray I have maximum exposure to the SON.

    Have a blessed day.
