Edit: Jan 17… When am I happy(iest) ? see bottom of this post

It’s amazing what we can see in God’s astounding world..
if we’re paying attention.
Last night, after a 16 hour shift , while walking to my car in a freezing rain,
I was privileged to still be awake enough to see
God’s “ice sculptures” along the way.
…this was right outside the door
..these; along the path
…and these delicate Japanese fans, or
Egret crests were right by the parking lot
“Who among the gods is like you, O Lord? Who is like you– majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?” (Ex:15:11)
Help us, O, Lord
to see your face
all around us;
ev’ryplace.
To see You in both great and small
to know Your wonder,
and enthrall
Not only in Your mighty deeds,
but also in the mustard seeds;
the universe in tiny things
e’en more the marvel of You sings.
O, help us see You ev’ry place
and so to know and loveYour face.

(thank you, Karen, for inadvertently prompting me to “get it in gear”
and put this up, with your weather questions)
Now for some answers to the burning question, “When am I happiest ?” Here’s a very partial list…
Happiest?
1.) When I’m around other people ( either in person or on the web..I love “discovering” others through their sites)
2.) When I’m with my kids or grandkids
3.) When I’m working
4.) When I don’t have to work
5.) When I’m taking or working with photos
6.) When I’m singing (note: when I’m enjoying myself doing anything else that makes me happy, I’m likely to start singing)

…singing with others makes me REALLY happy!
7.) When I’m outside
8.) When I’m indoors (but I’ve got to be working on something; dishes, Xanga, SOMETHING)
9.) When I’m driving
10.) When I’m having “quiet time” with God”
11.) When I’m reading
12.) When I’m participating in an online activity….like this one, found at:

Great pictures! I know the ice looks pretty on things, but too bad it damages them in the process. You sure have a lot of color on your foliage for this time of year. Everything here is brown under the ice!
Hope you get some rest after that LONG shift!
Kathi
you have put the thoughts of my heart into words!
I love the pics and the words
What amazing beauty we are blessed with, even in every storm. Even in the midst of the worst situations His glory shines through if we take the time to look for it. Thank you for sharing the pictures.
Blessings; Sarah
HEY JIM…I LOVE THE BEAUTY IN THE ICE PICS…I JUST H8 THE DAMAGE IT CAUSES SUMTIME…
WE HAD AN ICE STORM HERE A FEW YEARS BACK & SUM PEOPLE DIDN’T GET THEIR POWER BACK ON FOR OVER A WEEK…OURS WUZ ONLY OFF FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS, BUT I LOST ALL MY DEER MEAT I HAD IN THE FREEZER…
I LOVE THE POEM…I’VE LEARNED OVER THE YEARS, NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS, TO ALWAYS SEEK THE FACE…OF THE GOD WHO CREATES ALL THINGS…LARGE & SMALL
GOD BLESS U…greg <><
So much beauty. So many auto accidents.
RYC – I live in the heart of the Ohio Valley not far from Louisville KY. It has been in the upper 50s (sometimes lower 60s) for over a week. Just yesterday the temp started falling. There were some flakes in the air today and the high is supposed to be in the mid 30s. This is very unusual weather for us. Maybe my propane bill won’t be so bad this year after all.
I love how you see God’s hand in even the littlest things. And take pictures!!!! God bless you this week:) This week is going to be wild, I have a meeting Wednesday with a very difficult parent. You have a good week, ok? in Him, Gerrie
Jealous of MY artistic ability? Bah! That is beautiful…..
great poem, cowboy Jim(RYC that cool profile pic on my site)! yeah, here yesterday and the day before it was about 70, and this morning, it was about 40! wierd weather for other parts, but I am still looking for the time this year when I go to sleep with the rain and wake with the snow!
Those pictures remind me of a Christmas trip to Texas one year. We were caught in an ice storm that went from Atlanta to Elkhart, and ended up with (quite literally) an icecicle of a car antenna! Be careful out west, Jim!
Cowboy
Jim,
Ouch, that sounds like a really bad accident!
Mike
how cool is that
I have been taking pictures all day today! I love the ice storms, too!
Jim, the singer for the song is Fernando Ortega! It was one of the links you sent me!!
Yes, he has a nice voice, PLUS he is a nice guy to work with and he plays piano well, too. He is classically trained and has some chops!
BTW, thanks for sharing in your post above.
GOOD Happy list
ryc: I don’t think I’ve ever been to Michigan… but I’m willing to change that - I just need somebody smart to figure out how a no-name singer/songwriter can make enough money on the road to support himself.
Yeah, the cough caused me to cancel my December gigs and not to book much so far for January. It’s pretty much a yearly thing – a hazard of my day job I guess. I appreciate your kind words about my Christmas tune. I see you’re replacing your music bit by bit – there are a couple of other complete ones on my site that you’re welcome to share if you’d like – check out ‘Once We Were Dreamers’ and ‘Paper Wings’. The latter is a short instrumental piano piece.
ryc: (tag! you’re it!)
No, not presumptuous at all – that’s why I posted those up there. I hope a few people enjoy them. It’s nice to hear from the ones who do – that’s what music is all about, right?
I have a similar cough formula – green tea with a shot of brandy a little lemon and honey. It tastes awful, but it does seem to help – at least as much as Nyquil or Vicks or any other OTC remedy I’ve tried.
All great things to be happy about!
It is nice to see His handiwork everywhere…now if’n we’d just stop racing around so we would not miss it…Smile
I like your pictures, I can see why you are happy!
I definitely relate to much of your happiness list.
A very nice list, and pictures. My whole city (state) is a winter wonderland. Beautiful. As long as I can stay in by the fire!
~TaunaLen
Brother Jim, that was a great post, great pics, great music. I love it. And need your prayers, especially for the next two weeks because I am travelling to Nepal and also in some of the areas where we had faced severe persecution a couple of years back. BR
You must be a very happy person. Good for you!
Jim,
Thanks for the beautiful photos of God’s handiwork and for your kind comments on my site.
The mountain picture was from a small park called Sapphire Point outside of Breckenridge, CO.
Cheers!
I liked the pictures to go with your Happiness post…nice.
Thanks for the comment, cryptic, though it was. Come back any time, and explain where you were going??? Nice to meet you!
~TaunaLen
Thanks for stopping by my xanga.
Going through the death of my father was a life changing event. That’s one poece of advice I could always give was not to leave things unsaid. I wear my heart on my sleeve so I never seem to have this problem.
Your pictures are beautiful.
Happiness is the things that are right in frnt of us.. We just need to take time to appreciate them.
Think I’ll sub ya– I like what you have to say.
Have a great evening-
Janie
Okay, now I get it! I love poetry and thinks Mattie’s is amazing. I enjoyed reading some of yours. Thanks for commenting on “Billboards of Mercy”. Being one is a daily goal for me. Hate when the job interrupts blogging!
~TaunaLen
Beautiful photos! Thanks for sharing your happiness.
yes you may send a link to your son…and I will keep him in my prayers that he will come home safely…Smile
Thanks for visiting, and thanks for your comment. What a sad situation~
A great list! And I love the accompanying pictures!
I am so thankful to God for allowing me to “discover” you here on Xanga. I am always blessed by your poems, your insights into Scripture, your photography, your music, your encouragement, and heart for missions, & for our Lord! I now have learned through your list that we have quite a bit in common ~ from #1-#12 ~ those things would have to be on my list, too!
God bless you, Jim. ~ Carolyn — BTW ~ what is the scoop re: your daughter going on a mission trip? (full time or part time; where; when; with whom; doing what type of ministry? etc.) ~ Yes, I have been known for asking a few questions ~ once or twice in my lifetime!
I’m making up my own list as I read these.
I’d love to see Drakonskyr post HIS list on this. I doubt it would resemble yours or mine. (Haven’t posted mine yet.)
Hey, great times to be happy!
RYC: The motor is working currently, a little wobbly, but heating the house ok. Working on getting a replacement. I would love to hear a new irish song! thanks
The pictures (all of them) are beautiful! And I think those times when you are happy are wonderful moments as well!
RYC: Thank you very much. And you are such a gentleman. Thanks for the subtle heads-up on the typo. I fixed it *blush*
Seems to me that you have a big dose of the Joy of the LORD, so glad you are happy. I am glad you got to read a bit of my pastor’s teachings. I am so blessed to have a great pastor who knows the Bible so well. I want to be as good at teaching as he is. Some of his studies just stand out and this is one of those, Hoping you have a blessed weekend. You guys are getting all our snow and ice. My kids are disappointed, but I am so pleased to not have to slip and slide on the roads.
Heather
Children definitely can be a source of great joy.
Hi Jim,
I’ve been a little on the quiet side this week. Had a few things that were bothering me, but I’m doing better now. How are you doing? I noticed 60 songs on your music scale. WOW, that’s fantastic. I’d like to build up mine as well, but I know that you know who is doing all of the work. I was wondering something. Would it help if I started all over from beginning to end and re-load another list with all of the songs that I wanted which would be a lot and then have a new HTML code made up? I have 18 now, and over 300 songs in my computer. Just curious about how to manage my own so it’s not too much on you. I guess I feel bad that I can’t do it myself when I have so many that I’d like to use.
On anoither note: Your pictures are really very interesting, and the layout of background is neat. Must take time to learn so much. God bless you and I hope you are having a good eveing.
Joe
Hope you find lots of things that make you happy today!
The ice pictures are so beautiful, although I admit I am hoping to NOT see anything like that in person in the near future! We might, though – it is snowing like crazy now, and they say ice will follow.
thanks for sharing!
Thank you for answering my questions (on C_Just_Bible). I am praying for your precious daughter. I just came over from Mike’s (Godfather) site…. 17 car crash ~ wow! I hope no one was hurt! Have a great week! Carolyn
very nice … love the pictures that accomodate the post. hugs to ya
RYC: I don’t think it’s right either. But it’s the reality of reality TV. I refuse to let Simon or any other judge destroy it for me though. I usually don’t watch the extras, unless it involves my favorite. Simon has always been just the way he is. Upfront and blunt. I just ignore what I don’t wanna hear.
Be happy!~
RYC: Sounds like a poem in the making there! From one of us or both!
U GOTTA LOTTA GREAT THINGS TO BE HAPPY ABOUT….
I GOTTA PHONE CALL LAST NITE & I’M INVITED TO SING AT A CHURCH SATURDAY NITE…PRAY THAT GOD WILL USE ME AS HIS INSTRUMENT…
*RYC…I REALLY DIDN’T UNDERSTAND YOUR COMMENT ABOUT THE TREE…HAHA…BUT, OH WELL…. ;p
TTYL…. greg <><
WOW. COOL BACKGROUND OF THE RED BERRIES!
OH…OK…I GOTCHA NOW…YOUR TALKIN BOUT THE CRAZY CHRISTMAS BACKGROUND I HAD UP OF MY GOOFY FAMILY…LOL!!!…U MEAN U STILL HAVE YOUR CHRISTMAS TREE UP??… ;p
Those pictures are stunning. Such a beautiful thing!
Great list. Great illustrations
RYC: Your comment totally made me giggle. Thanks for stopping by
Awwwww. I read Rachel’s site. Is she an exchange student? Student? Sorry, I haven’t had time for much reading this week. I’ll keep her in my prayers. Hopefully she’ll be having too many great experiences soon to be tooooooo homesick!
RYC: good for her! Did she pick up the dialect from the trips to Mexico? I’ve heard of that organization before. Sounds like a good thing to do. Is it similar, then, to what the mission trips to Mexico are like?
