I Will Not Rhyme Today
“I will not rhyme today”,
I said.
But words keep creeping
through my head.
They dance in there
with meter’d rhyme,
And prance about
while keeping time.
The rhythm seems
not set by me ,
But has it’s own
vitality:
And when I set on
other things
The poem inside my head
still rings..
I dare not fight
this metric flood;
It seems I’m wired this way
by God,
And ‘though I prose-ish
try to be,
Poetic songs still
ring through me.
(despair not for my plight; I’m at work today…words of hope to come)
…Some sing or dance
to praise our Lord
Some tell His news
with mighty word;
Whatever’s given you
to do,
Give all your heart
and see it through,
If priest or dancer,
nurse or bard,
From city press
or Scotland’s Yard
Give worship as you
give your all
And this way daily
serve His Call.

…you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother’s womb.(Ps 139:13)
Whatever you do, (do it) heartily, as for the Lord and not for men,
knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your
reward. You are serving the Lord Christ. (Col 3:23+24)

reminds me of “Princess Bride”
(Visini):No more rhymes, I mean it!
(Fesik):Anybody want a peanut?
(Visinii): AARR….(pause)…Fesik are there rocks ahead?
(Fesik): If there are, we’ll all be dead!
(Visini): AAAAAAAAAARrrrrrrrrgggggggghhh
Sorry if the words are slightly out of order, or the names aren’t spelled right…I love this movie though

wanan say Hi
Yes indeed, my brother, this is what the Lord has made you, and how you are wired, called and gifted. And we thank God for that
Blessings to you, Gerrie
And ‘though I poetic
try to be,
Prosaic treatises of great length and dry still
laboriously, pedantically–almost always philosophically–still become the means by which I both disclose and conceal the man called ”me” who is attempting for reasons unknown at times even to himself to make some great discovery tucked away in archaic place, perhaps in pages long old, maybe even showing signs of mold, seeking knowledge between yellow, brittled pages few will ever read or care to read while his fleet-footed brother heals others with his words, his hands, and the example his life sets forth for
all the world to see.
Sam, great reference!
Ken, Lucy, Paul…Hi!
Gerrie, It’s nice to discover what we’re made to be, isn’t it?
Eric:
You to yourself
disservice do;
I’ve seen your poems
Albeit few.
With style and meter
or verse free,
Rich, creative
work I see.
Although deep prose
may be your part,
Your poems as well
have touched this heart.
Thanks for being Eric, Eric.
Have a nice weekend!
Kenneth
I second Jim, Eric! And not to worry about not being more poetic. I think it might be an Irish thing
That is a great poem! I like this, it made me chuckle.
RYC: thanks, and I loved the allusion to the two/one thing that was witty!
You are annointed, and set apart by God! What an amazing gift you have.. without even trying, He still blesses you. Just shows that you are truly His vessel… His mouthpiece. Bless you Jim!
