Hallelujah, Glory to God! It’s a B-E-A-UTIFUL morning here! Great sunrise driving in to work today (while I took two Excedrin with some flat Coke for the migraine I had); and the normally mindlessly drivelling sports station that had been tuned in on the radio was playing a really good rendering of “America the Beautiful”. (Headache is gone by the way…isn’t it something how REALLY GOOD you feel AFTER something noxious has happened to you, and then is done?) So for the 4th, here’s the text to the song that’s running through my head, thanks to Phoenixbreach, who had posted it previously.
AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!
O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!
O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!
O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!
O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man’s avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!
O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

Hi Jim I love your site its so upbeat and I am seem to be so blue lately… Your words lift me up and remind me I am a Child of God and I don’t have to go through this…like you I have a choice to be happy or sad…. and btw….. does coke with 2 excedrin really help a migraine? I’ve tried just about everything…I am on a prescription drug now for them…. Great song playing….
Have a great day, I played hookie yesterday thinking it would be great to spend the day with my husband, evidently he had other plans and i thwarted them by staying home with him….and he let me know about it by insulting me and being so disrespectful to me.
I keep telling my self “One day at a time, Sweet Jesus”……..
Wow! I never realized the song had that many stanzas. It was a joy to read through all the lyrics. ~April
